So you think you know the Great British afternoon tea? Think again. It’s just had a positively fresh makeover at One Aldwych hotel in Covent Garden and we think you’re going to love all the new twists on this old favourite. Even better, book for afternoon tea in The Lobby Bar for four people and only pay for three.
When we say a fresh new feel, we mean lighter versions and clever ways of serving them up, all masterfully created by executive chef Tony Fleming. His Modern British Afternoon Tea includes a bite-sized chocolate and raspberry brownie, a creamy apple trifle presented in a small glass and a gorgeous finger-sized piece of pink and yellow Battenberg cake. Tea sandwiches are made with wholemeal bread and fillings like duck-egg mayonnaise and roast chicken. While the traditional warm scones are irresistible with clotted cream and home-made berry jam.
Of course, it wouldn’t be afternoon tea without the tea. However, now there’s a selection of award-winning Tea Palace leaves and infusions to choose from, such as lapsang souchong, jasmine pearls and peppermint. With the four-for-three offer you can also enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne.
If you’re planning a special occasion, such as a baby or bridal shower, One Aldwych can arrange for afternoon tea to be served in a private suite. The baby shower includes a leg massage, pedicure and bouquet of flowers for the mum-to-be and costs from £520 for up to eight guests. The bridal shower includes party gifts, plus for the bride-to-be, a bouquet of flowers and an ‘Indulge Her’ spa package for a later date, all priced from £640 for up to eight guests.
The Modern British Afternoon Tea is served in The Lobby Bar, One Aldwych hotel, from 2.30pm-4.30pm daily. The price for one person is £26.50, or £35 including a glass of champagne. The price for a booking of four people (regular tea or champagne tea) includes one person for free. A booking of eight people also includes a complimentary magnum of champagne.
