When we were kids, a trip to the shops meant trailing around after your parents while they looked at a million sofas and other soft furnishings, and the highlight of the day was eating a day-old iced bun in a nearby café. It’s fair to say that, back in the day, kids expectations were pretty low.

It is, therefore, with just a smidgen of jealousy that we have to alert you to the arrival of ‘The Kids Are Alright’ – two weeks of top entertainment and special offers for children of all ages, set in the historic surroundings of Covent Garden’s Piazza. ‘The Kids Are Alright’ runs from Monday 10th – Sunday 23rd August 2009.

There’s a giant sandpit (gah, we love those things), face painters, balloon modellers, plus juggling and plate-spinning workshops from Covent Garden’s very own street performers. Meanwhile, budding chefs can get messily creative with icing and silver balls as they get stuck into cupcake decorating classes and chocolate making tutorials on food market days (Thursday 13th and Thursday 20th August 2009).

Make a beeline for Covent Garden’s excellent selection of toy stores, and you’ll find lots of special offers*. Disney Store, for example, is running fun quizzes, animation classes and competitions over the two week period; there are gifts-with-purchase from Build-A-Bear Workshop, Benjamin Pollock toy shop and Candy Cakes*, plus discounts at Wonders gifts, Paperchase and the Tin Tin shop to name a few*!
