What’s so appealingly unpleasant about Barmy Britain? It takes all the nastiest bits about Blighty’s history and wraps them up in a 60-minute performance of stomach-churning comic moments, pantomime humour and 3D effects.
From the Vikings to Henry VIII and the baby-farmers of the Victorian period, the craziest and creepiest characters of the past are virtually brought to life on the Garrick’s stage. Kids get a more engaging look at history than the usual dry textbook lessons. And even adults may be surprised by the facts they pick up.
If you think history is all in the past, you’ll get a whole new impression with this show. A contemporary treatment sees the Romans competing on MasterChef, and the First World War brought up to date for The Apprentice generation.
While the show is new, it’s just the latest offering from the hugely successful Horrible Histories franchise.
