The most compelling pics of London are the quirky, less obvious scenes that truly sum up the city. From Covent Garden’s church garden to Soho at dawn, rollerbladers in Hyde Park and clubbers queuing for Brick Lane nightspots, the capital has plenty of unique places to satisfy an itchy shutter release finger.
Naturally, the vibrant shopping, eating and drinking hub that is Covent Garden presents some of the city’s best photo ops. Catch the ballerinas rushing to their rehearsals at the Royal Opera House or the celebrated Real Food Market in full flow on a busy Saturday and you could capture that ‘slice of life’ image that’s the hallmark of many a famous photo. We’d love to see your personal memories of Covent Garden too, from a day out with the family on the Piazza to your first date.
With that in mind, in the year of its 180th anniversary, Covent Garden has launched a year-long art project celebrating the best photography of WC2. This is by the people, for the people, with all contributions coming from members of the public. Whether you’re a regular snapper or a photographic newbie, this is your opportunity to show the world your personal vision of Covent Garden.
Submit your pictures of Covent Garden and the best of them will appear in a dedicated gallery. At the end of 2010, experts will select the finest examples and these will be printed and placed on a giant photography wall, sited on the Piazza.

There are four easy ways to send in your Covent Garden snaps:
1. Click here to fill in the entry form and upload your pics to the site. Photos will be sent to our Flickr group where they will be moderated.
2. Upload directly to our dedicated Flickr pool . Approved pics will appear in the gallery on the Covent Garden website.
3. Email your images directly to coventgardencanvas@capcount.com . Please include a caption and the year the pictures were taken.
4. Printed images can also be dropped in to the Market Building Information Office located at 42 The Market Building, Central Avenue. Please put your images in an envelope clearly marked ‘Covent Garden Canvas’ and include your name, return address, phone number, caption and the year the pictures were taken. Your pics will then be scanned and returned to you.
