London Design Festival hits Covent Garden
London Design Festival are bringing three exciting installations to the Piazza this year.
The London Design Festival is a nine-day celebration of design in the world’s creative capital. The Festival is a platform for the widest spectrum of design disciplines, brought together as a unique and accessible programme.
Between Saturday 18th – Sunday 26th September 2010 you’ll be able to see installations from some of the most exciting artists around, ranging from a giant new shape, the joining of a sphere and a helix to a chalk-board van, installations on the Piazza are free to admire and interpret as you wish
The centrepiece will be British artist Johhny Hawkes’s ‘Sphelix’. A future design icon, the two-part form seamlessly entwines to create a perfect sphere representing the coming together of communities and promises to entrance and delight public and design audiences alike.
Joining the Sphelix for one day only on September 18th is the innovative Chalkyvan. Fresh from a high-profile appearance at the recent Vintage at Goodwood festival, the customised vintage VW campervan’s blank panels are ready and waiting for you to unleash their creativity and make your mark on the Piazza.
Public art project Love Me Live with Me will also make an appearance on the Piazza on Wednesday 22nd September as part of its tour across London. The Love Me Live with Me cart will be distributing free art at random to the public encouraging them to live with their object for a week, submit their thoughts to the project’s blog and then pass the object on for someone else to enjoy. Londoners will have the chance to adopt anything from a small print project to precious glass sculptures worth over £500 each.
