The food of love
Covent Garden is a buzzy place at the best of times and, come Valentine’s Day, its handsome historic surrounds play host to a string of romantic encounters. From spontaneous marriage proposals on the Piazza (yup, we’ve seen this) to intimate encounters in the area’s many bars and loved-up lunches and dinners in some of the capital’s best restaurants, WC2 is the perfect place to spring a starry-eyed surprise.
With high-end gourmet offerings to affordable brasserie dining, there are dozens of options and a global range of cuisines available throughout this West End foodie paradise.
Chez Gerard who, in our humble opinion, do some of the best steak frites in London, are offering a free glass of champagne for those who book a Valentine’s dinner via their website – www.chezgerard.com
On King Street, head to the ‘impress the date’ favourite that is Clos Maggiore. Styled like a French country inn, with its welcoming log fire and intimate lighting, the classic French cuisine combines stylish presentation with big flavours. The wine list, too, is spectacular and has won an award of excellence from Wine Spectator.
Meanwhile, new Covent Garden arrival Le Pain Quotidien, is offering Valentine’s Day diners a fabulous three course meal plus a glass of champagne for just £25 per person.
Finally, frozen yoghurt emporium Yu-foria, who can be found on the lower level of the Market Building, have a sharing option which will see even the most loving of couples debating over who gets the final mouthful. Their Valentine’s special gets you a hot waffle with yoghurt, three toppings and two spoons, and all for only £3.
Romance doesn’t have to be financially ruinous….
