The Talk of the town
What are your wildest hopes and dreams? That’s the question being posed to Covent Garden visitors in December by a unique construction that’s been dubbed, quite simply, ‘The Wishing Well’.
This triangular totem of talk allows visitors to speak their thoughts and reveal their personal wishes via mobile phones. Within a few minutes their voices are converted to text by SpinVox’s unique system.
Christmas is a magical time, a time of looking forward and optimism. Here these emotions find a new outlet of expression as visitors’ wishes help to create the interior of a prism-like tower. The text is accompanied by a soundscape, lights and projections, creating a stunning architectural sculpture which provides a 360 degree vision of our desires.
During its 26 day life cycle, the Wishing Well’s coloured tiles slowly fill up with the myriad voices of Covent Garden visitors. This pulsing rhythm of hope and colourful pattern of positivity will change organically, creating a mesmerising account of real peoples’ stories.
