Covent Garden gets festive!

Covent Garden Piazza

The Piazza, at the heart of Covent Garden, hosts a variety of talent, performance and family events.

Covent Garden has been transformed into a festive wonderland with a British-grown Christmas tree on the West Piazza and a topiary reindeer on the East Piazza. Giant red baubles hang from the roof of the Grade II-listed Market Building, the arches have been decked with festoon lighting and every hour and half-hour enormous mirror balls create a blizzard of flickering light.

Tradition and cutting-edge technology come together on the North East Piazza every day from 11 am – 8 pm with a Nativity scene unlike any you’ve ever seen. Even its creator, visual artist Martha Fiennes, doesn’t know what to expect next as her ever-changing, ethereal, digital artwork has been coded to evolve and change in a random and unpredictable way. Swing by to be mesmerised by a contemporary take on the Christmas story – it’s free and is attracting about 1,500 visitors a day!

Every Saturday until 17 December, there will be reindeer petting in the South Piazza and the North Hall will ring to the sound of seasonal cheer with carol singing from some of London’s most loved choirs. Out of the Blue take centre stage on Saturday 10th December and on Saturday 17th, a local community choir will be entertaining the crowds.

Covent Garden’s best-loved markets will also have extended hours. The Apple Market, with its rows of stalls selling handmade crafts and collectables for shoppers seeking out unique gifts, will be open every day from 10.30am to 6pm.
