Covent Garden has long been known as one of London’s more fashionable areas, a place that combines the best in high street style shopping with some of the capital’s coolest boutiques.

It’s fitting then, that the area is also home to the Fashion Fringe final, an event that’s become an integral part of the London Fashion Week circuit. It was set up seven years ago by legendary fashion writer Colin McDowell MBE in association with IMG Fashion, in response to the need to support young talented designers in London and to keep them in London. Its aim is to discover, nurture and sustain cutting-edge design talent across the UK and, since 2004, Fashion Fringe has helped launch more than fourteen designers onto the London fashion scene. Previous Fashion Fringe success stories include Erdem Moralioglu, who numbers Samantha Cameron, Sarah Brown and Claudia Schiffer among his fans, and the duo of Basso & Brooke who recently dressed Michelle Obama and Katy Perry.

This year sees John Galliano, Creative Director of Christian Dior, take time off from designing his next Dior and Galliano collections, to chair the event. With an output that numbers a cool 35 collections a year, including Dior and Galliano, couture Dior and John Galliano menswear, it’s a tremendous commitment to an initiative he considers vital to British fashion.

‘I am hoping we find a rebel genius. I will look for someone who reminds me of me when I was starting out – someone original, unique, who has their own style and handwriting and isn’t afraid to try something new. Fashion sometimes gets scared and plays it too safe – but I want to push boundaries,’ says Galliano.

Following a long selection process and intensive mentoring period, the three finalists are ready for their first catwalk show as part of London Fashion Week. This will be held in Covent Garden on Saturday 18th September in front of a 500-strong fashion industry crowd.

The trio of fashion newbies are Alice Palmer, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, Jade Kang, a graduate of the London College of Fashion, and Corrie Nielsen, a former Central Saint Martins student. The winner will pick up an award on the day and receive over £100,000 worth of funding and support for their next collection which will be shown at London Fashion Week in February 2011.

This event is strictly invite-only but one lucky winner can score a pair of tickets by clicking the link below.
